For The Crown ++ (beta 0.51)
A downloadable game for Windows
This project is an implementation of the board game "For the Crown" by Jeremy Lennert. You can read more about the original board game here:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/144567/for-the-crown-second-edition
The board game is a fusion of Chess and the card game Dominion. Use the card-based economy to build your deck, recruit reinforcements for the chessboard, and even perform special moves to augment your strategy.
Approximately 100 possible different cards and 80 different unit types, the majority of which are not used in each game setup, gives the game unlimited replayability - every game will have a different set of troops and tactics available.
Application designed by me, CPE Gaebler.
This application was programmed to understand all the game's rules, including all the cards and units included in all the expansions ever published. You can connect to a host to play over a tcp connection, or you can play on a single computer using a pass-and-play system that hides all players' cards during player transitions.
A number of convenience features have been added to help new and veteran players process the strategic depths and the large variety of new pieces, including automatic card-counting, glyphs to illustrate which pieces and empty squares are threatened and protected, and arrows to illustrate how a selected piece travels.
The download includes a 52-page manual documenting the application, a readme containing links to the rulebook for the original board game, and a link to a discord server.
This is a beta release; the project is fully playable including networked play, but there are still development targets remaining. There is no centralized server; for networked play, currently one player must host and players must trust each other with IP addresses.
